Pet Partners / Delta Society
Therapy Dog Evaluations
on May 12, 2012

If you’ve ever thought about being able to take your pet to nursing homes, hospitals, school reading programs, Special Olympics, etc., this is where you start. Dr. Jenkins and Stephanie Burnette will be conducting dog-handler evaluations for Pet Partners / Delta Society on Saturday, May 12. As a registered Pet Partners dog-handler team, you will know that you and your dog together are ready to do this type of volunteering and you will have the credentials to prove it. Plus you will have the peace of mind of being part of Pet Partner’s two million dollar liability policy. Almost any animal can be a Pet Partner – alpacas, cats, guinea pigs, horses, etc. – but dogs are most common.

Here’s how to become a credentialed, registered therapy animal team. There’s an online course that teaches about handler responsibilities and professional expectations of Pet Partners. Then there’s the evaluation on May 12. Dogs must demonstrate solid obedience and unwavering friendliness – even in simulated situations that could be stressful to dogs. A list of the exercises included in the evaluation is at the end of this PDF: http://deltasociety.org/ document.doc?id=750

Once you pass the evaluation and become a registered therapy animal team with Pet Partners, you receive an official vest for your dog, receive an id badge for your dog, receive an id badge for yourself, are included in all the benefits of membership, and are ready to start brightening lives with your pet.

For more information on how therapy animal programs can brighten the days of people in your community, check out the Pet Partners website here: http://deltasociety.org/

To contact Dr. Jenkins and Stephanie Burnette with questions or to sign up for the evaluation, submit the form at the bottom of this webpage.
