Emily Falk, VMD

Education & Academic Achievement

  • Emily Falk, Veterinarian, Canine Rehabilitation, Diagnostics, General Surgery, NutritionObtained her bachelor's degree from Gettysburg College. There she received Departmental Honors in Biology, earned induction into Phi Beta Kappa (the highest academic honor society) and graduated Magna Cum Laude. She achieved all of this while also playing on the NCAA Division III basketball team.
  • Completed her doctorate degree at the University of Pennsylvania where she graduated in 2009. While at U Penn, Emily earned induction into The Society of Phi Zeta - the honor society of veterinary medicine.
  • Dr. Falk is a published researcher based on her time in South Africa where she was part of a team studying the behavior of bats.
  • Dr. Falk also provided her services at the United States Sheep Experimental Station near Dubois, ID. With the 3,000 adult sheep plus attendant young sheep at that research facility, research was conducted there concerning ecosystems and sustainable management, genetic improvement, and nutrient intake and use.

Canine Rehabilitation

Dr. Falk has completed extensive post-graduate education in canine rehabilitation. This specialized training goes beyond what most veterinarians are taught in their doctorate programs to add knowledge about how supervised exercise programs and physical therapy can help dogs with orthopedic complaints, help dogs with neurological conditions, and / or improve the recovery from orthopedic surgery. Sheep Dog Trials and Dog Agility Trials

CPE Agility TrialDr. Falk is an accomplished dog handler. She has competed in CPE Dog Agility Trials, where her dog Ella titled. She competes regularly in Sheep Dog Trials. Dr. Falk also maintains a small flock of sheep on her farm outside of Galax, in Grayson County. Her four border collies help her keep the sheep tightly herded and moving in the right direction.

Areas of Practice:

Emily's favorite areas of veterinary practice are diagnostic challenges, nutrition, rehabilitation, and general surgery.
